My Senior Project- Film Critic Blog

Welcome to my Movie Review Blog!

Welcome to my movie review blog. This blog is a graduation requirement for my senior year at Drexel University and I'm lucky enough to have such an amazing department (Television Production and Media Management) and an amazing mentor and professional film critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Steven Rea

The objectives and goals of my senior project are to make an update to date blog of movie reviews. The blog is entitled: DrexelGrad-FilmCritic.blogspot.com. Using a checklist and critiquing advice from my mentor, Steven Rea I will be able to make an efficient movie review using what I have learned from pervious classes. For example, editing styles and editing choices, cinematography, set design, shots used and use of certain camera angles (aka directing choices) and overall, performance and attitude of the movie. I hope to learn more about reviewing movies from a more cinematic perspective, to be able to use the knowledge I have learned from my past three years at Drexel and apply them in the movies I view. This will make me feel more knowledgeable about what I have learned and how to look at movies differently in the future, as a film critic.

Every week I plan on seeing a film at the Rave Pictures (Penn’s Campus) Franklin Institute (North 20th street) or The Ritz 5 (200 Walnut Street). After the movie I will write a movie review based off what I have discussed with my mentor and post it on my blog, after sending the critique to be reviewed by my mentor first. The money I will use for purchasing movie tickets will come from my own pocket and I will not be reimbursed in any way.

My proposed timelines are to see a movie by Thursday or Friday evening and have my critique reviewed by my mentor and up on my blog by that Monday. My blog will be viewable twenty-four seven if any teacher or my mentor would like to view it from now till Spring term 2013, when the project is due. I plan to keep my blog after graduation as a resume builder and calling card to possible job opportunities.

My budget can range from five to twenty dollars based off ticket sales, Rave Pictures at University of Pennsylvania has a Drexel Day where day movies can be as little as five dollars but a typical student discount is nine dollars for night movies. Also, I will provide myself with popcorn and soda, only if I want to. If my budget that week is rather tight I will forgo the popcorn and just get the ticket. I will pay no more then twenty dollars to enjoy a movie once a week.

A special thanks to Professor Andrew Susskind of the Television and Media Management Department and Steven Rea for aiding me in this journey of film knowledge with the use of this blog and allowing me to make such an awesome senior project come to life.
